Growth on heavy soil – Thes Agro Exploitatie on digging with the 56VX350

What started with 300 hectares of wheat in Burgh-Haamstede has grown in seventeen years to 600 hectares of arable land, spread over clay soils around Burgh-Haamstede and the heavy soils in De Heen. Thes Agro Exploitatie grew along with it – with increasingly efficient machines and a clear preference for spading.

In 2020, the company invested in an Imants 56VX350 to replace two older 46 series machines. The new spading machine is used for mixing, subsoiling and sowing in one pass, and has been modified to a working width of 3.5 meters with six subsoiling tines, so that all machines on the farm remain compatible with each other.

“We always choose spading for wheat,” says the company.

With one tractor and one spading and sowing combination, we can complete everything in a single pass, without leaving extra tracks. This year, we spaded and sowed around 250 hectares of wheat in a single pass, with minimal wear on the blades.

The spading machine also works excellently on heavier soils. This season, for example, alfalfa was successfully spade-seeded.

After breaking up the headland with a rotary harrow, we were able to spade and sow immediately. This required some adjustment, but the result was excellent – even on the heaviest plots.

The experience confirms what Thes Agro Exploitatie already believed: even on heavy soil, a rotary spading machine is definitely a suitable solution. The combination of capacity, soil quality, and efficiency makes it a valuable investment for now and the future.
