Flexible deep loosening with the Culter – Schulze Beiering's experience

German arable farmer Schulze Beiering was looking for an alternative to his existing deep loosening machine.

We tried out the Culter and were immediately impressed. It works deeper than our Amazone TL-302 and is also much more versatile.

The Culter is used on the farm for growing crops such as grain, sugar beets, and corn. Soil preparation takes place in the fall or early spring, depending on the crop and conditions. “Sometimes we want to loosen the soil superficially, sometimes deeply. After rye, for example, we work to a depth of 30 to 35 cm.”

A major advantage is the flexibility in configuration: the Culter can be used on its own or in combination with a seedbed preparation implement, such as a rotary harrow-seed drill. The number of tines is also adjustable.

With six tines, we can sow beets immediately behind the machine. But in other conditions, we opt for four, for less resistance.

In dry years – such as last season – Schulze Beiering opted to only cultivate after the grain harvest, sometimes even extra deep. This maintains the soil structure, even without mixing.

The conclusion?

“The Culter adapts to our plot, the crop, and the weather. That makes it ideal for a flexible crop plan.”
